CLUELESS: a powerful, practical, and entertaining approach to starting your memoir. Hello, first chapter!
If you want to go from actively not writing to, 'Wow! There might be a book here!' this is the workshop for you.
And of course, everything is better when you do it IN GOOD COMPANY, sooooooooo . . .

I'm THRILLED to invite you to this 3-day creative group experience! The permutations will be TO DIE FOR.
"If writing your story has been something you’ve thought about but haven’t done, get yourself into this free workshop with Inger.
Not only is she a genius at clearing away the stuff that gets in our way, she’s loads of fun! And she’s right - the hardest part is starting (that’s true for anything) but it’s easier with great company."
- Tracy Hewitt /Artist & Coach

Cost: Free.

3. Friday, October 31st, at noon Central Time

All classes will last 60 minutes, and we will meet on Zoom.
You want to show up live (all the classes will be recorded).
I fully endorse this workshop. My memoir is now finished and published!

Which one is you?
1.
You've started 38 books and never finished any of them. Super frustrating. But what if all that writing made starting again easier, not harder?
2.
Your memoir is done, but only in your heard. You haven't actually written anything. Maybe because you've been caught up in the drama around 'authentic voice' and other unhelpful ideas.
3.
If given the chance, you know you could become the next Elizabeth Gilbert. But your perfectionism and need to know EVERYTHING up front is blocking your creative flow.

Maybe your situation isn't exactly like that, but regardless:
Whether you've started a million times, or your book is a big fat mess, or you haven't written a single word, the help is near.
There is so much good news here!

If you can't move beyond thoughts like, 'I'm not a good writer' or 'This is taking too looooooong!' this workshop will teach you to move with your thoughts and keep writing.

Hello! I'm Inger Kenobi, and I'm what you might call a memoir enthusiast. I LOVE a good memoir, and as a writer it's a fantastic format because you don't have to make anything up. You don't have to worry about world-building. And no, it doesn't have to be a big epic production starting with your birth and droning on and on and on. . . it can be a collection of short stories or about one particular year.
My first memoir is about the year I stopped shopping. The one I'm working on now is about the ten years I lived at a Tibetan Buddhist centre. What will yours be about? Only one way to find out!
What we'll cover together:
1. The secret behind all good memoirs.
No, it's NOT being a famous person or knowing exactly how your book will be received.
It's running with the idea that makes you feel most alive.
Here you will understand that your stories want to be told for a reason (even if can't articulate why, that comes later.....), and you'll grow your ability to collaborate with your muse/the divine/the Universe/magic/creative forces.

You'll also receive prompt that melt away writers block and overthinking.

2. The power of jumping in.
The art of writing with the life you have right now.
There is an art to letting yourself write the first chapter without thinking you need to shape-shift into a person who can write for at least three hours a day, or has written since they were five years old, or wait until everyone is behaving and the dishes are done.

The best time is always now and the circumstances will never be ideal. Less thinking, more writing.
3. The link between feeling clueless and creativity.
Jumping into the unknown is the ultimate act of creativity.
People who want to write but don't. . . have a super high need to know the answers to questions like:
-What will this lead to?
-Will I get an agent?
-What about money?
-What if no one likes my book?
-What if I become famous over night? Shit! I need a new haircut.

People who write have the same questions, but they're less concerned about the answers. They just write. They are in the flow. They know they will gather clues, ideas, and answers along the way. So will you.

Writing the first chapter leads to awesome things like:
- Letting go of the illusion of 'the perfect time.'
-Letting go of the illusion that you need to be a good writer before you start to write.
- Discovering how many cool stories you're sitting on.
-Actual, physical progress!
This process works. You want to go form hoarding your stories to writing the first chapter. You also want to pick up some cool writing tips and learn how to keep writing when you think every single word is a pile of shit. Done, done and done!

CLUELESS INCLUDES:
3 live 60 minute Zoom calls.
In-between our sessions you'll WRITE YOUR CHAPTER!

But, but. but!
I'm not sure what I want to write about. I have so many ideas. Will this workshop be useful?
OMG! Yes! Doing beats pondering, every single time. Once you start, you know what you're dealing with, not what you might hypothetically be dealing with. . . .
And no, you don't have to wait until you feel ready. The secret is to start, and that's when all the ideas, insights, and inspiration that's been hiding in plain sight will become visible.
I have written my first chapter. I need help with the rest of the book. Should I register or not?
Come! Nothing you learn here will go to waste. You might see your chapter in a new light. You might write a different first chapter, just to see. You will walk away with ideas for how to start chapter two. . . .

Some memoir ideas to get the creative juices flowing:
-
It can be funny and deeply moving, like David Sedaris' books.
-
It can focus on only one year of your life, like Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Pray Love, or like Cheryl Strayed's Wild.
-
It can be camouflaged as fiction, like Nora Ephron's Heartburn.
-
It can be both spiritual and playful, like all of Anne Lamott's books.
-
It can weave together two events, like theft and suicide, as in Sloane Crosley's book Grief is for People.
-
It can weave together universal themes and personal experiences, like in Caitlin Moran's How to be a Woman.
